Nigeria: Recovery of over $5 billion in stolen assets in 25 years
Over the past 25 years, Nigeria has successfully recovered at least $5 billion in stolen assets, including money and jewelry smuggled abroad. Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Director of the Nigerian Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), shared the news, stating that the organization continues its efforts under the « Common African Position on Nigeria’s Asset Recovery. » The recovery includes funds returned by Switzerland and the United States, with significant sums taken by former President Sani Abacha.
