Nigeria : MSC invests over $1B for new Snake Island terminal

On March 12, 2026, MSC, the Swiss shipping giant, secured a 45-year concession to build a container terminal at Snake Island, Lagos, in partnership with Nigerdock. The terminal, featuring a 910 m quay and 16.5 m depth, will span 30 hectares, with future expansion to handle vessels up to 24,000 TEU. The EPC contract went to ITB Nigeria and Deme. Scheduled to open in 2028, this project is part of MSC’s $1B+ investment in Nigeria, aimed at decongesting existing ports, boosting logistics efficiency, and generating local employment.
