Nigeria: $1.2 billion contract to revive aluminum production

Nigeria has signed a $1.2 billion contract with Chinese company CNCEC to refurbish a gas processing plant essential to aluminum production. According to the Ministry of Petroleum, this agreement is a first step toward reviving the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria (Alscon), which has been inactive for years. The project is expected to produce up to one million tons of aluminum annually and generate 540 megawatts of electricity.
