Niger : Minimum wage increased to 42,000 CFA to boost workers’ purchasing power

On October 22, 2025, the Council of Ministers of Niger, chaired by General Abdourahamane Tiani, adopted a major decision: the Guaranteed Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMIG) rises from 30,047 CFA to 42,000 CFA, an increase of nearly 40%. Initiated by the Ministry of Public Service, Labor and Employment, this measure addresses social partners’ demands and reflects the transitional authorities’ efforts to strengthen social and economic reform. An accompanying decree harmonizes minimum wages across professional categories. This adjustment enhances workers’ purchasing power and promotes social cohesion amid rising inflation.
