Niger : Extreme poverty drops to 45.3% amid inflation and Political Uncertainty

In 2024, Niger’s extreme poverty rate fell to 45.3% from 47.8% in 2023, thanks to strong agricultural growth, lifting over 270,000 people out of poverty, according to the World Bank. Yet, inflation surged to 9.1%, driven by food price hikes. This economic progress unfolds amid a five-year political transition following the July 2023 coup and Niger’s withdrawal from ECOWAS in early 2024.
