On July 11, 2025, the Bank of Namibia signed a licensing agreement with India’s National Payments Corporation (NPCI) to introduce the UPI instant payment platform. This marks the first time NPCI partners directly with a central bank. The move will fast-track Namibia’s digital financial transformation, promote inclusion, and deepen India-Namibia tech cooperation.
