Namibia : EU supports drought relief program with a N$3.8 million donation

In a show of international solidarity, the European Union (EU) has announced a donation of N$3.8 million to support Namibia’s ongoing drought relief efforts.

The funds will be managed through the Namibia Red Cross Society and are intended to provide essential aid, including food, clean water, and multipurpose cash to over 140,000 individuals affected by the drought in the Kavango West, Zambezi, Omusati, Ohangwena, and Kunene regions.

This donation comes in response to the severe drought conditions in the country. In May 2024, President Nangolo Mbumba declared a State of Emergency, recognizing the drought as a national disaster. The Namibian government has launched a comprehensive drought relief program estimated at N$1.6 billion, with N$800 million already mobilized from international sources.
