On May 12, 2025, at the end of a three-day visit to Laayoune and Dakhla, AFD Director General Rémy Rioux announced an initial $162 million investment in Western Sahara, in areas under Moroccan control. Projects include port upgrades, sanitation, and vocational training, in accordance with international law, AFD stated.
