Mobile telephony : Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire launch the first community roaming in Africa

The Deputy Director General of Ghana’s National Communication Authority (NCA), Dr Ezer Osadi, and the Director General of Côte d’Ivoire’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ARTCI), Namahoua Touré, signed a memorandum of understanding in Abidjan on 14 June 2023 to launch community roaming on public mobile communications networks within the ECOWAS zone.
This community roaming will enable any Ghanaian subscriber travelling in Côte d’Ivoire, and vice versa for any Ivorian in Ghana, to continue to use their number and benefit from affordable tariff conditions for their calls, including free incoming calls when roaming.
In addition to free incoming calls, the average reduction in costs is 48%, rising to 98% for several other services.
