Following the declaration of the state of disaster by President Lazarus Chakwera on January 12, 2021, National Bank of Malawi contributed 70 million KK (kwacha, approximately US $ 3.85 million) to the fight against the pandemic of Covid-19. This sum was split between a participation of KK 10 million in the Citizens Response to Covid-19 initiative and a donation of KK 60 million for medical supplies to the Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo-Chiponda.
