Madagascar : USD 334 million from AfDB for food and agriculture
The African Development Bank (AfDB) is to finance Madagascar’s National Pact for Food and Agriculture to the tune of USD 334 million. This was announced by the Malagasy Presidency on March 19, at the end of a meeting between Madagascar’s President, Andry Rajoelina, and the AfDB’s Director General for Southern Africa, Leila Mokaddem.
The meeting focused on food security, energy and the implementation of Madagascar’s ‘Emergence Project’.
Leila Mokaddem said the AfDB is supporting integrated projects (land rehabilitation, access to irrigation, road rehabilitation and the creation of an agro-processing zone) to ensure food security.
