Koyo Kouoh, First African woman commissioner of the 2026 Venice Biennale

Koyo Kouoh, curator of the Zeitz-Mocaa Museum in Cape Town, has been appointed commissioner of the 61st Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2026. The first African woman to hold this role, she succeeds Adriano Pedrosa. At 57, Kouoh, founder of an art center in Dakar, aims to create a meaningful exhibition connected to « Black geographies. » She advocates for a Pan-African and Pan-diasporic narrative influenced by global Black culture.
