On 4 December 2025, Vodafone announced a takeover move for Safaricom through Vodacom Group, acquiring 20% of its shares, including 15% from the Kenyan government. Valued at about €1.8 billion, the deal will raise Vodacom’s stake to 55%, giving Vodafone full control and consolidation of Safaricom, Kenya’s telecom and mobile money leader.
