Kenya : government allows direct international sales of tea

On May 3, 2025, Kenya approved a policy allowing its 142 tea factories to sell directly to international markets, eliminating intermediaries. Announced by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the move aims to boost farmer incomes and sector transparency. Backed by the Tea Board of Kenya and EATTA, the initiative could generate up to $150 million in additional annual revenue.
