Kenya : China leads clean energy push with $7B in investments

On May 21, 2025, China reaffirmed its dominance in Kenya’s energy sector, supplying 96% of solar panels and 81% of lithium batteries. Since 2010, over $7B has funded major infrastructure, including the 50 MW Garissa solar plant. 

This partnership supports Kenya’s goal of achieving 100% green electricity by 2030, amid rising power demands and rural electrification efforts.
