The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $73 million (Sh9.4 billion) funding for the second phase of the HEST II project to upgrade 19 public universities in Kenya with new labs, digital tools, and modern teaching equipment. The initiative will also create three engineering centers of excellence and a science park, supporting over 100 youth-led start-ups. According to Hendrina Doroba, AfDB’s Education and Skills Development Division Manager, “Education remains the surest path to a better life.” By 2030, 20,000 students, including 8,000 women, will benefit, with 5,000 direct and indirect jobs expected.
