Italy : €1.2 billion to back strategic projects in Africa

On June 20, 2025, Italy, supported by the European Union, announced a €1.2 billion investment plan for Africa. Presented by Giorgia Meloni and Ursula von der Leyen, the funding is part of the Mattei Plan and the Global Gateway initiative. It focuses on rail infrastructure (the Lobito corridor), digital connectivity (extension of the Blue Raman cable), and resilient agriculture. Beyond development, the strategy aims to reshape Euro-African relations amid global competition and migration challenges.
