Guinea : African Union lifts sanctions

The African Union announced on January 22, 2026 in Addis Ababa the lifting of sanctions imposed since the September 5, 2021 coup against Guinea, which had been suspended from continental bodies. This decision follows the December 28, 2025 presidential election, in which General Mamadi Doumbouya won over 86 % of the vote, marking a return to constitutional order.

The AU welcomed the political progress and invited Conakry to immediately resume its participation in AU activities.
