Ghana : historic deal to refine gold locally and capture more value

On January 20, 2026, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) signed an agreement with Gold Coast Refinery to refine artisanal gold domestically and reduce value losses from raw gold exports.
From February 2026, 1,000 kg per week will be refined locally, supported technically by South Africa’s Rand Refinery to meet LBMA standards.
This step follows artisanal exports generating ≈$8 billion in the first ten months of 2025.
