“Our commitment to students at our campuses in Africa is to provide them with a quality education ‘Made in Silicon Valley’; that is, an education identical to that of our other institutions around the world, in Tulsa, Paris or Tunis,” Bucher said after he took over the management of Holberton School on October 1.

Founded in Silicon Valley, Holberton Schools since 2019 have been based in the African countries of Tunisia, South Africa and Libya.

The international network of schools specializing in the training of high-level computer developers, born in Silicon Valley, has been present in Tunis, Johannesburg and Tripoli, since 2019

Convinced that an alternative to the current educational system is necessary and possible, Florian Bucher is taking over the project undertaken by Julien Barbier since 2015 in California. His ambition is to reinforce the level of technical but also social and behavioral skills of future developers trained in the existing Holberton Schools, particularly in Africa.

“He, above all, co-founded in 2013 the 42 (school) with Xavier Niel”

An Epitech alumnus, Bucher started his career in 2006 as a telecom engineer for EDIS, then Wengo, then Thomson Telecom. Then he quickly acquired a solid international experience in the field of Tech and education. He was appointed CTO of Ionis Institute of Technology (EPITECH, EPITA), but above all he co-founded in 2013, the internationally renowned 42 school with Xavier Niel. In 2020, he joined Holberton as COO.

High-level training to more than 400 students in Africa and more than 3,500 worldwide

“The mission of the Holberton network is to promote education and training as a lever for economic and social development. We are very enthusiastic about the idea of accompanying the people who make the code of today and who participate in the construction of the world of tomorrow, » says Florian Bucher.

with 24 campuses around the world, including three on the African continent, Holberton School has been offering high-level training to more than 400 students in Africa and more than 3,500 worldwide. A report by Africa Developer Ecosystem, released by Google has noted that Africa had 716,000 professional developers in 2021. Four million are needed today to respond to the needs of the continent.

By 2025, the network hopes to double the number of physical locations by relying on an increasing number of local and international partners

Holberton School’s programs of excellence are created by experts from Silicon Valley and among them is the Machine Learning program, whose content has been approved and validated by Oleksandra Fedorova, ML software engineer at Google. These training courses thus meet the technical and interpersonal expectations and requirements of the world’s largest companies.

Holberton School’s ambition now is to accelerate its development while assuming its social responsibility in the training of IT talents. By 2025, the network hopes to double the number of physical locations by relying on an increasing number of local and international partners. In the meantime, an extensive alumni network of entrepreneurs and engineers has been built at Google, Meta, Nvidia, and other international tech giants.
