The Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) returns in 2025 with a rich and committed program. Under the theme "I Am Africa", this 29th edition celebrates the continent's creativity through a selection of diverse and bold films. Between the official competition, tributes, and new sections, the biggest gathering of African cinema promises to be a vibrant reflection of the continent’s realities and aspirations.

The organizing committee of the 29th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) has unveiled the official selection for this new edition, which will take place from February 22 to March 1, 2025. With 235 films selected out of 1,351 screened, this year’s lineup promises to be rich in diversity and innovation.

A selection reflecting the dynamism of african cinema

The press conference held on January 10 in Ouagadougou revealed a highly competitive lineup. « This is one of the rare times that so many films have been selected from across the African continent. We are very proud of this selection; it is an excellent lineup with many world premieres, » emphasized Alex Moussa Sawadogo, FESPACO’s General Delegate.

Burkina Faso, the host country, will be represented by two films: Katanga, la danse des scorpions by Dani Kouyaté and Les Invertueuses by Chloé Aïcha Boro. The guest country of honor, Chad, will present Diya by Achille Ronaimou. Among other participating nations are regulars such as Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as newcomers like Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde.

A strong theme for 2025: « I Am Africa »

The official visual for FESPACO 2025 highlights a stylized female figure, « I Am Africa », symbolizing cultural diversity and the importance of women in African cinema. « This theme embodies the resilience and creativity of African filmmakers. It reflects our desire to highlight stories that resemble and unite us, » explains Alex Moussa Sawadogo.
