Exhibition: Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Museum Hosts Africa Fashion

From March 31 to July 12, 2026, the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac opens its doors to the Africa Fashionexhibition, curated by the Victoria and Albert Museum. The event highlights the vibrancy of African fashion, creating a unique dialogue between contemporary designers and historical collections.

After acclaimed stops in London, New York, Chicago, Melbourne, and Montreal, Africa Fashion comes to Paris to showcase the dynamism and diversity of African creative industries. The exhibition journey takes visitors from Nigeria to Mali, and from Morocco to Senegal, reflecting the richness and variety of the continent’s artistic and textile practices.

The exhibition establishes a vibrant dialogue between contemporary talent and the museum’s historical collections. Textiles, accessories, jewelry, and photographs are highlighted to show how tradition meets innovation. According to the museum’s official press release, “For the occasion, the museum highlights its collection of African textiles, accessories, and jewelry, as well as a selection of photographs drawn from its archives and collected from the public.”

A celebration of African creativity

Among the exhibited pieces are creations by contemporary African designers who reinterpret ancestral patterns and techniques, producing bold and modern collections. The exhibition also explores fashion’s role as a medium of culture, identity, and social narrative, emphasizing the global impact of African designers on the international stage.

By juxtaposing these works with historical pieces, the exhibition underscores both continuity and evolution in African fashion. It demonstrates that African creators do not confine themselves to traditional codes but combine heritage craftsmanship with contemporary innovation to engage in a global conversation.

Africa Fashion is therefore more than an exhibition: it is a celebration of African creativity, a meeting point between past and present, and an invitation to rediscover the cultural and artistic richness of the continent through textiles and design. The event promises to inspire visitors and strengthen international recognition of African designers.
