Ethiopia : Dangote Group to boost cement production

Aliko Dangote, CEO of Dangote Group, has announced plans to expand the Mugher cement plant in Ethiopia, located 85 km from Addis Ababa. With an investment of $400 million, the goal is to double its annual production capacity to 5 million tonnes by 2027. The plant, which opened in 2015, has faced challenges, including regional instability and violence. Dangote also plans to build a new grinding unit near Addis Ababa and invest in Ethiopia’s sugar industry. This expansion aligns with Dangote’s broader strategy to increase investments in Ethiopia and Africa.
