According to the Ministry of Planning and Development, Ethiopia saved over $1.08 billion USD in foreign exchange in the first quarter of the 2025/26 fiscal year through its import substitution program. Minister Fitsum Assefa highlighted the restart of 37 industries and the launch of 10 new factories in agro-processing industrial parks, with 31 more preparing to start. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) noted that economic reforms delivered structural change, with agriculture growing by 7.3% and record foreign exchange earnings.
