Energy: Uganda and Tanzania Agree on Cross-Border Gas Pipeline Project
Uganda and Tanzania are about to realize their joint project to build a transboundary gas pipeline. Energy ministers and industry experts from both countries met at the end of last week in the Ugandan capital Kampala to finalize the project. The two parties discussed, among other things, the management arrangements, or the execution and supervision of the project. According to local Ugandan media, the following topics were also mentioned: the registration of the companies that will participate in the project, the distribution of income, defense and security issues of the two countries and the participation of the citizens in the project implementation. The project is expected to have immediate benefits for both countries, particularly in terms of job creation opportunities. It will also meet the strong demand for gas supply that is increasing in Ugandan households.
