Egypt: Macron’s visit to strengthen strategic partnership

French President Emmanuel Macron has been on a three-day visit to Egypt since Sunday (January 27th ) to strengthen economic partnerships between the two countries. He is accompanied by a delegation of five government members and a hundred French entrepreneurs. The head of state met his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi on Monday. Thirty agreements or contracts should be signed between the two countries for an amount of several hundred million euros, in particular in the areas of transport, renewable energy, health or agri-food. Despite strong criticism of human rights organizations, which point to the repressive regime of the Egyptian leader, Paris maintains its support to Egypt, a major economic partner, which is also the most populous country in the Arab world.
