Egypt Electricity interconnection with Sudan effective from January 12, 2020 (official)

The electric interconnection between Egypt and Sudan will enter into service on January 12, with an initial capacity of 50 megawatts, announced Sunday, December 29, the spokesman of the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies, Ayman Hamza. « The network will have a voltage of 220 kV, and will cover a distance of approximately 1,000 km, » said the spokesman. Hamza noted that the capacity of the network could subsequently exceed 50 megawatts thanks to a future upgrade on which the ministry is currently working.
