Egypt : Strategic Solar Project Moves Ahead in Kom Ombo

On June 14, 2025, Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec confirmed the final development phase of its 200 MW solar power plant in Kom Ombo, Upper Egypt. The project, valued at $243 million, is backed by the African Development Bank, the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
Scheduled for commissioning in early 2026, the plant is expected to generate 650 GWh of electricity annually, supplying power to approximately 130,000 households and preventing 280,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. Kom Ombo is set to become a strategic component of Egypt’s clean energy agenda.
