Egypt : Deutsche Bahn to Operate Future High-Speed Rail Network

On 19 November 2025, Egypt signed a contract with a consortium led by Deutsche Bahn and Elsewedy Electric to operate its future high-speed rail network. Covering 2,000 km and connecting 60 cities, the fully electric network will reach speeds of 230 km/h, becoming the 6th largest in the world. The 15-year deal ensures full training of Egyptian personnel and skills transfer, with Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction, and The Arab Contractors involved. The project aims to modernize transport, enhance connectivity, and boost tourism.
