Egypt : 3 GW solar + 600 MW storage planned in 2026 to boost grid

Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced plans to add 3 GW of new solar PV capacity and 600 MW of battery energy storage before summer 2026, increasing total grid‑linked storage to 1.1 GW to meet an expected 6 – 7 % growth in peak demand. This expansion supports Egypt’s target of 42 % renewables in the power mix by 2030, with natural gas still dominant at 81 % in 2024.
