ECOWAS: An Adapted Strategy to Reduce Air Transport Costs
During their meeting in Lomé, the ECOWAS Ministers of Air Transport adopted an ambitious regional strategy to reduce air transport costs. Starting January 1, 2026, taxes and fees will be reduced by 25%, with the goal of making air travel more affordable and improving regional connectivity. This reform also includes the implementation of common safety standards. Member states will have one year to implement these measures, supported by the creation of regional structures for aircraft leasing and maintenance.
