DRC: A $36 billion plan to achieve 62.5% electricity access by 2030
The Democratic Republic of Congo has launched the « National Energy Compact, » an ambitious program unveiled during the Cabinet Meeting on November 8, 2024. Minister of Water Resources and Electricity, Teddy Lwamba, announced the goal of increasing the electricity access rate from 21.5% to 62.5% by 2030. This project requires an investment of $36 billion, split between the public sector ($16.5 billion) and the private sector ($19.5 billion). The plan also includes initiatives to accelerate access to clean cooking solutions. The success of this project could mark a turning point for the country’s social and economic development.
