Conakry Biennale : a celebration of African creativity

The Conakry Biennale took place in the Guinean capital from November 7 to 15, 2025, bringing together artists, curators, researchers, and cultural leaders from across the continent and the diaspora. Focused on themes of memory, identity, and innovation, the event confirmed Conakry’s status as a rising cultural hub in Africa.

For nine days, Conakry became the epicenter of African artistic expression. Exhibitions, performances, workshops, and panels brought together emerging and established voices to explore key themes such as decolonizing narratives, safeguarding cultural heritage, and the impact of technology on artistic production.

Local traditions and modern innovation

The Biennale highlighted works merging local traditions with modern innovation, featuring interactive installations, digital art, and immersive performances. Artists from the diaspora also showcased pieces centered on personal memory, migration, and identity reconstruction.

A strategic platform for cultural policy development

Beyond the artistic showcases, the event served as a strategic platform for cultural policy development. Discussions addressed funding for creative industries, the circulation of African artworks in global markets, and the role of institutions in supporting artists from the continent.

This inaugural edition strengthened Conakry’s position as a cultural hub in West Africa, capable of convening key actors while supporting local talent.
