China : zero‑tariff access for 53 African countries from 1 May 2026

Starting 1 May 2026, the People’s Republic of China will implement zero tariffs on imports from 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations, announced President Xi Jinping via state media. The policy expands a preferential tariff regime previously applied to 33 African nations and aims to boost China‑Africa trade, enhance market access for African exports through mechanisms such as the “green channel,” and deepen economic partnerships across the continent. Eswatini remains excluded due to its diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
