CARICOM : Afreximbank raises exposure to $5bn
On February 25, 2026, at the 50th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting, Afreximbank announced it would increase its regional financing cap from $3 billion to $5 billion over the next three to four years. Official bank figures indicate over $750 million already disbursed and more than $2 billion in ongoing transactions.
Represented by Dr. George Elombi, the Bank outlined support for healthcare, tourism, agro-processing and energy infrastructure, alongside backing a regional payment system modeled on PAPSS, launched in 2022 under the African Union.
As of December 31, 2024, Afreximbank reported total assets and guarantees of $40.1 billion and shareholders’ funds of $7.2 billion.
