Burkina Faso : mining license granted to Nordgold for Niou gold project
On April 25, 2025, Burkina Faso awarded an industrial mining license to Russia’s Nordgold for the Niou gold site (Kourweogo), set to produce 20.22 tons over 8 years. The project will contribute $89 million to the state budget. The junta is strengthening ties with Moscow to support an economy hit by insecurity.
