Botswana : Scatec launches construction of the first 60 MW phase of the 120 MW solar project

Scatec has initiated the construction of the initial phase of a 120 MW solar project in Mmadinare, Botswana. The project secured financing of 1.4 billion BWP (94.5 million euros), with the first phase aiming to generate 60 MW. The World Bank and Rand Merchant Bank are supporting the initiative. Scatec has entered into a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Botswana Power Corp. for the first 60 MW, and the entire project is expected to contribute to Botswana’s goal of achieving 18% renewable energy production by 2030. The Norwegian company will handle the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) as well as the operation of the project.
