Botswana : Botswana Diamonds secures 8 copper exploration licences
Botswana Diamonds PLC announced on 26 January 2026 that it has been awarded eight prospecting licences covering around 7,000 km² in north‑western Botswana, with a primary focus on copper and additional potential for gold and other critical minerals. The areas were identified through an AI‑driven review of the company’s 95,000 km² exploration database, including 375,000 line kilometres of geophysical data. The licences are valid until 31 December 2028, and the company plans to engage in geophysical and geochemical programmes and discussions on possible joint ventures to advance exploration. This strategic move aligns with a weaker diamond market and global demand for energy‑transition metals.
