Algeria : Pope Leo XIV will make his first official visit to the country in April before traveling to Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea

The Pope Leo XIV will conduct an official apostolic visit to Algeria from April 13 to 15, 2026, the Vatican confirmed on February 25, 2026. The visit — the first ever papal trip to the North African Muslim-majority nation — is at the invitation of Abdelmadjid Tebboune and kicks off an 11-day African tour that also includes stops in Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea from April 13–23. In Algeria, he will visit Algiers and Annaba, highlighting interfaith dialogue and the legacy of Saint Augustine, born in the region.
