African Development Bank : Sidi Ould Tah assumes office

Mauritanian Sidi Ould Tah has officially taken office as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), following his May 29, 2025 election by the Board of Governors. A former minister and ex-Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), he succeeds Akinwumi Adesina for a five-year term. He faces pressing challenges, including a USD 400 bn annual financing gap, a USD 555 m U.S. aid cut, and the need to establish an African Financial Stability Mechanism.
