Africa Science Week :  $42M to back SGCI Phase 3 and STISA 2034 implementation, Africa’s 10‑year science, technology and innovation strategy

On 10 February 2026 in Addis Ababa, during Africa Science Week, a $42 million partnership was launched to fund Phase 3 of the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI). Backed by Canada’s International Development Research Centre, Norway, the UK FCDO, the Wellcome Trust, Germany’s DFG and South Africa’s National Research Foundation, the funding will support implementation of STISA 2034, Africa’s 10‑year science, technology and innovation strategy.
