Africa-Europe: Casablanca hosts third Choiseul Africa Business Forum

For the first time since its inception, the Choiseul Africa Business Forum will be held in Africa, in the Moroccan economic capital, on October 19 and 20.

« Africa will be at the heart of tomorrow’s global recovery. It is from this conviction that the ambition of the Choiseul Africa Business Forum was born, and it is from this observation that we seek each year to strengthen all fields of value creation in Africa, » says president of the think tank, Pascal Lorot. After two editions in Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, the Afro-European forum will hold its third edition on October 19 and 20 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Casablanca. This is the first time that the event takes place in an African economic capital. « In a city that embodies more than any other the dynamic partnership between Europe, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, » notes Pascal Lorot. 

The co-organization of the third edition of this forum, with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) enhances the status of Morocco as a business hub with Africa. Chakib Alj, president of the CGEM and Abdellatif Maâzouz, president of the Casablanca-Settat region will open this third edition. As a strategic partner of the Choiseul Africa Business Forum, the Casablanca-Settat region has emerged as a key platform for innovation and large-scale economic projects at national and sub-regional levels. It will be honored throughout the Forum with a dedicated space. The panel of Moroccan personalities will defend, before a continental and international audience, Morocco Now, the new investment promotion and export brand of the Kingdom,

The brand Morocco Now and the Made in Madagascar honored 

Another country in the spotlight: Madagascar. The presence of President Andry Rajoelina, accompanied by a ministerial delegation, is announced. The big island at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean maritime routes has direct access to the Arabian Peninsula, East Africa and Asia. The session « Invest in Madagascar » will allow personalities to present the issues around two panels: The Made in Madagascar and the presentation of business opportunities offered by the country.

The Forum will host, among other political figures, Minister of Economy and Finance of Morocco, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Benin, Jean-Michel Abimbola, Director General of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, Hani Salem Sonbol, Director General of the Investment Promotion Center in Côte d’Ivoire, Solange Amichia or Egyptian businessman, Naguib Sawiris.

On the agenda: Cybersecurity, ecological transition and digital transformation

The Forum seeks to encourage meetings and exchanges, in view of economic partnerships; it is also, for organizers, an opportunity to seek solutions to the new problems facing Africa. Among the main conferences scheduled: « How to strengthen cybersecurity in Africa », « On the eve of COP 27 in Egypt, an update on renewable energy », « Africa, is it the future model of energy transition », « State of play of the driver of economic growth which is the digital transformation of SMEs ». Other themes will be addressed such as the rise of cultural and creative industries, agribusiness, tomorrow’s African cities, health, infrastructure …

Last year, for the 2021 edition, one hundred speakers took the floor, fifty countries were represented, twenty roundtable meetings were held and five hundred and fifty participants attended. For this Moroccan edition, the Choiseul Africa Business Forum hopes to bring together some six hundred decision makers and senior economic and institutional leaders from Africa, Europe and the Gulf. Among them, business leaders, heads of state and ministers, international donors, as well as representatives of the African and European business communities. 

The Choiseul Institute, an independent think tank, analyzes major economic and societal issues and promotes good governance on a global scale. Champion of the credo « the future is African » since 2014, the institute highlights young economic leaders of the continent through the Choiseul 100 Africa. This ranking had identified the one hundred most talented economic leaders under the age of forty of their generation.
