Africa/EAC : Intra-regional trade surpasses USD 11 billion in 2024

Intra-regional trade within the East African Community (EAC) reached over USD 11 billion in 2024, marking a 22% increase compared to the previous year, according to the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The growth was driven by agriculture and manufacturing sectors—particularly textiles, chemicals, cement, and pharmaceuticals. The report also highlights the strengthening of regional value chains and the positive impact of the AfCFTA’s Digital Trade Protocol. This performance reflects the region’s deepening economic integration, improved infrastructure, and reduction of non-tariff barriers.
