On 28 June 2025 in Abuja, Afreximbank shareholders appointed Dr. George Elombi, a Cameroonian legal expert and long-serving executive, as President and Chairman of the Board. He will succeed Benedict Oramah in September 2025, becoming the 4th leader since 1993. Elombi notably oversaw the mobilisation of USD 3.6 billion in ordinary equity as of April 2025.
