On March 28, 2025, the Heads of State of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) adopted a historic 0.5% tax on the customs value of goods imported from third countries. The tax will generate funds to support regional integration projects, infrastructure, and strengthen AES institutions. The revenues will be managed in a special account under the supervision of the finance ministers. This tax takes effect immediately.
