Burkina Faso : $20 million loan from Kuwait Fund to develop 2,000 hectares of irrigated land

Burkina Faso has reached an agreement with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, securing a $20 million loan to develop 2,000 hectares of irrigated land in the western region. This project, with a total cost of 37 billion FCFA, is supported by multiple financial partners and aims to modernize Burkina Faso’s agriculture, which accounts for 35% of the GDP and employs over 82% of the workforce. The initiative is expected to annually produce over 40,000 tons of agricultural products and create approximately 8,000 direct jobs, particularly for women and youth.
