DR Congo : government invests $70 million to revitalize MIBA
The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced a financial support of $70 million to the Minière de Bakwanga (MIBA) to revitalize this once-leading diamond sector company. Finance Minister Doudou Fwamba Likunde revealed this information on December 28, 2024, via his X account. The revitalization plan aims to certify mineral reserves, crucial for attracting international investors and strengthening MIBA’s credibility in the global market.
By modernizing its equipment and securing its mining perimeter, the company will increase its productivity and profitability. Additionally, the completion of the Lubilanji hydroelectric plant will ensure a stable energy supply, reducing costs and enhancing MIBA’s competitiveness. This project aligns with the government’s strategy to revive state-owned enterprises, with hopes of revitalizing the Congolese economy.
