Morocco : IFC plans to provide a €150 million loan to Tanger Med Port Authority

IFC plans to provide a €150 million loan to Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) . This loan will be accompanied by $50 million in co-financing, converted into euros, mobilized by IFC from institutional investors through its Joint Loan Portfolio Program (JLPP). TMPA is responsible for the operational management of Port Tanger Med 1, the « Passenger » and « Ro-Ro » ports, as well as Port Tanger Med 2. Although the port authority has conceded container terminal operations to private and public partners, it directly supervises and operates the passenger and truck terminals.
The funds allocated by the IFC will be exclusively dedicated to the expansion of the passenger and truck port. This major project will cover a total area of 62.92 hectares, representing 6.3% of the current Tanger Med port complex, which covers more than 1,000 hectares.
