Economic Commission for Africa : Rwandan Claver Gatete appointed Executive Secretary

Rwandan Claver Gatete has been appointed new Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations, he was governor (2011-2013) and deputy governor (2009-2011) of the National Bank of Rwanda, the Central Bank of Rwanda, as well as secretary general and secretary of Treasury, at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda (2003-2005).

He also held the position of Executive Secretary of the ECA, Director General of Economic and Social Affairs in the Office of the President of Rwanda (2000-2003). During this period, he represented the president at Nepad. National economist at the United Nations Development Program, he is also an agriculture and agri-food economist at Statistics Canada, in Ottawa, Canada (1993-1997).
