Egypt’s first digital business register was launched on 13 April 2023. The project is being carried out by the Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, in association with Visa Inc. and Commercial International Bank (CIB). This was reported on the same day by Egyptian government sources.
Each of the 4.3 million Egyptian businesses wishing to conduct transactions on this digital platform will receive a unique QR code and a digital identification card.
As a reminder, this initiative of the Egyptian government is not the only one in favour of local businesses. Indeed, on April 11, 2023, the Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) announced the launch, in July 2023, of an electronic platform to create companies in a few minutes.
